Can
Hebrew serve as a tool for promoting Diaspora-Israel relations?
In the past, the automatic answer to this question was yes.
Today we see that there are decreasing resources being channeled
to the teaching of Hebrew in most Diaspora countries both on
the part of the Jewish Agency and local communal institutions?
What do we learn about Israel-Diaspora relations from the problematic
“state of Hebrew education”? What should the policies
of the Zionist institutions, such as the Jewish Agency be towards
the teaching and dissemination of the Hebrew language? What
are the ideological and educational consequences of alternative
policy scenarios?
