"Aren't the Israelis and Palestinians
both terrorizing each other?"

Digging beneath the surface in the Middle
East conflict

A newspaper editor bears the double responsibility of producing
both a quality product and adhering to the principles of journalistic
ethics. A newspaper covering the Israel-Palestinian conflict bears
the added weight of navigating through a minefield of misdirection
and rumors - many of them circulated by the media themselves. This
situation demands some serious soul-searching from representatives
of the fourth estate who too often lend credence to the Palestinian
claim that Israel is to blame, justifying their actions by complaining
that “Everything started when she hit me back.”
Ha’aretz editor-in-chief Hanoch Marmari takes a close look at his
paper and other media and how they grapple with the responsibility
of reporting from the Middle East.

Indoctrination in the Palestinian Media
By Itamar Marcus
(April 11, 2002)
Although there have been national leaders
who have orchestrated mass murder since the defeat of Nazi Germany,
no government has openly preached genocide as a systematic ideology
of public policy. This taboo has been broken now by the Palestinian
Authority.
